How to hang Peel and Stick wallpaper

Peel and Stick wallpaper is renter-friendly and removable, making it especially good if you live in an apartment or rented house.

Checklist before hanging

Assemble your tools – Make sure that you have the necessary tools at hand. A complete overview can be found in our tools guide.
Prepare the surface – Walls should be smooth, clean, and dry before you start. See our wall preparation guide for best practices.
Acclimatize the wallpaper – Remove the wallpaper from its packaging, unroll it, and cut each length along the dotted marks to separate the panels. Place the wallpaper in the room where it will be installed for at least 24 hours, allowing the wallpaper to straighten and adjust to the temperature and humidity.
Measure your wall – Confirm that you have enough wallpaper that matches the required height and width. See our measuring guide for more detailed instructions.

Hang your peel and stick wallpaper

Unroll the wallpaper and cut along the dotted lines to separate each panel. Make sure each panel corresponds to the full height of your wall.

Pile them flat in numerical order on a clean floor surface, with panel #1 on top (see: 'Length: x' at the top right corner). Place them in the room where they will be installed for at least 24 hours to allow the material to acclimatize.

Hang the first panel

The first panel sets the foundation for the entire installation. When facing the wall, application starts on the left-hand side with panel #1.

NOTE: If your wall is sloped and the highest point is on the right, begin on the right and hang the strips in reverse order instead. Always begin at the highest point of the wall.

Lightly mark the width of the first panel on the far left of the wall with a pencil. Using a spirit level, draw a fine vertical guideline indicating where the right edge of the strip should be, and align the wallpaper with your marked vertical guideline.

NOTE: If you added safety margins when ordering, make sure to center the strip vertically on the wall. That way, the excess is evenly distributed at the top and bottom.

Starting at the top of the wall, peel away approximately 25 cm (10 inches) of the backing paper at a time and apply the wallpaper to the wall.

Do not remove the backing all at once. Work downward gradually. Gently smooth out air bubbles as you go.

Hang the remaining panels

Continue by aligning each new panel, from left to right in numerical order, edge-to-edge with the previous one without overlapping.

Carefully match the pattern, press the edges together firmly, and smooth out any air bubbles.

Smooth the finished wall

When all panels are installed, go over the entire wall once more using a wallpaper brush or plastic smoother. This ensures full contact between the wallpaper and the wall and enhances adhesion.

Trim and set

Once all panels are in place, trim excess wallpaper at the ceiling and floor using a sharp knife and straight edge.

Allow the wallpaper to set at room temperature for at least 24 hours. If a radiator is mounted on the wall, keep it turned off during this time to prevent uneven shrinkage.

When to choose Peel and Stick wallpaper

Renting: If you live in a rental and your landlord doesn’t allow traditional wallpaper, Peel and Stick is a great solution.

Temporary installations: If you only need the wallpaper for a limited time, such as for an event or in a child’s room where you want to change the design more often, Peel and Stick is a great choice.

Small spaces: For a small, simple wall or feature wall, Peel and Stick is an easy option.

When not to choose Peel and Stick wallpaper

Textured walls: If your walls are textured and you don’t plan to smooth them with wallpaper primer or skim coat first, we recommend using the paste-the-wall Premium Textured wallpaper instead.

Permanent installations: For permanent installations or commercial spaces with higher wear and tear, we recommend choosing our non-woven Premium or Premium Textured wallpaper.

Changing humidity: Peel and Stick is not suitable for rooms with significant temperature changes or fluctuating humidity, such as bathrooms.
